Bas says, “The One performs flawlessly”

Bas says, “The One performs flawlessly”

For Bas, cycling is more than just a hobby; it’s a way of life. His passion began at a young age in the Dutch province of South Limburg, where he bought his first mountain bike. Since then, he has experienced countless adventures on two wheels, from challenging mountain bike trails to relaxed rides on his road bike. What has truly elevated his cycling experience recently, however, is his use of The One.

The Adventure: From Rwanda to the Eifel

Bas’ greatest mountainbiking adventure was participating in the Rwanda Epic in 2023. This five-day race through Rwanda’s stunning landscapes was a unique experience, both physically and mentally. Alongside a good friend, he took part in the event, where the focus wasn’t just on competition but also on the overall experience.

Another memorable moment occurred closer to home: a cycling trip with friends through the Eifel region. It was during this ride that the true power of The One became evident.

Bas Peeters The One

The Eifel Tunnels: Where The One Excels

Bas enthusiastically recalls a remarkable moment during the Eifel ride. The route followed an old railway line with tunnels of varying lengths, from 20 meters to an impressive 400 meters. While his friends’ bike computers – including well-known brands like Garmin – lost track after just a few meters, The One continued to perform flawlessly.

“I was really impressed with how well The One worked in those tunnels,” says Bas. “Even in the longest tunnels, it still accurately showed my location, while the other computers completely lost their way. It didn’t just inspire confidence; it also gave me a sense of pride.”

This moment highlights the unique technology behind The One, which uses an advanced sensor fusion model. This ensures the device remains accurate even in challenging conditions, such as tunnels or dense foliage. “It was a real eye-opener. It shows that The One goes further where other bike computers stop,” Bas explains.

A Bike Computer That Returns to the Essentials

What Bas values most about The One is its simplicity and user-friendliness. “The device removes all distractions so you can fully focus on cycling,” he says. He praises its intuitive interface and clear display, which remains reliable even in bad weather.

During a rainy cycling tour in The Netherlands, he once again noticed the difference: “While the touchscreens on other computers became useless in the rain, The One once again proved that a touchscreen only adds unnecessary complexity to a bike computer. The navigation with buttons is far more practical. That’s exactly what you need during a ride.”

An Innovative Community

Bas is closely involved in the development of The One. He emphasizes that the bike computer continues to evolve every three months with a software update and that users are part of a growing community. “As a user, you know Absolute Cycling will listen to your wishes, grow with the cyclist, and understand what the cyclist really wants. It’s the community that makes it so special,” he says.

Bas’ Conclusion

For Bas, The One is a device that brings cycling back to its essence. Whether it’s mountain adventures, long rides abroad, or a simple ride in the rain, The One continues to perform where others fall short.

Juul van Loon’s winning formula: The Power of Custom Screens

Juul van Loon’s winning formula: The Power of Custom Screens

Juul van Loon, a dedicated marathon mountainbiker, shares his love for the sport, the challenges he faces, and how he uses The One to achieve his best. From marathon stageraces in the Alps to beach races in The Netherlands, Juul provides an inspiring look into the world of mountainbiking.

The Appeal of Mountainbike Marathon Stageraces

“Mountainbike Marathons Stageraces are the ultimate experience for me,” Juul begins. “I prefer riding in the Alps, Italy, or other regions with long climbs. The combination of physical challenge and stunning surroundings makes it truly special.” While he enjoys all types of races, mountainbike stageraces hold a special place in his heart.

“You’re constantly pushing yourself to improve, all while riding in the most beautiful locations. Whether it’s the Italian Piemonte or a remote trail in Switzerland, the sense of freedom and accomplishment is unmatched.” Juul also appreciates the simplicity of mountainbiking. “All you need is your bike, nature, and some gear. My camper makes it even easier – everything I need is in there. No stress about forgotten tools or nutrition. I can just go.”

Juul van Loon_The One 2

Personal Screen Setup for Peak Performance

Juul uses The One for both racing and training, helping him navigate and monitor his performance. In 2024, he competed in events like the Swiss Epic and Alpentour with The One.

“In races like the Swiss Epic or Alpentour, reliable navigation is essential,” he explains. “The clear maps and the ability to switch between screens quickly make navigation effortless. Especially on technical descents or fast sections, it’s reassuring to know what’s ahead.”

Juul relies on three primary screens during races, each tailored to specific situations:

  • Map View – Displays the route along with power output and heart rate. The map is zoomed in for detailed navigation.
  • Metrics Screen – Provides a comprehensive view with eight metrics, including distance, time and elevation.
  • Focus Screen – A simplified display with just three metrics: power, heart rate and speed.

In some situations, Juul reduces his display to a single metric: power. “During long climbs, power output is the most important. I want to see my wattage at a glance, without distractions.”

For training, he uses a customized setup. “For interval sessions, I add a lap counter and average power so I can analyze my performance accurately.”

The One_Power

Why This Setup Works

Juul’s screen configuration is designed for simplicity and efficiency. “I don’t want to see too much information at once—only what’s essential. The One makes it easy to customize screens, so I always have the right information for every situation.”

With this thoughtful setup, Juul maximizes his performance during both training and races.

The Role of The One in Training

The One also plays a key role in Juul’s training. “I analyze my rides with TrainingPeaks and Strava to understand exactly where I stand and what I need to improve. During intervals, I use The One to track my power output and lap times. It’s an indispensable tool that I also use as a coach.”

In 2019, Juul began coaching through Bikesight Coaching, helping motivated mountainbikers achieve their best results.

Future Plans: World Championship Qualification and New Adventures

Juul has ambitious plans for 2025. “I hope to qualify for the Marathon World Championships in Switzerland.” The championship course is familiar to Juul, as it was the site of his first marathon in 2002.

In addition, he plans to participate in stageraces races like the Transpyr and Lanzarote, as well as beach races. “The combination of adventure, competition, and nature makes it all worthwhile.”

Inspiring Others

With his passion for mountainbiking and attention to detail, Juul inspires others to push their limits. Whether it’s conquering a long climb, navigating technical trails, or sharing his experiences, his story motivates cycling enthusiasts everywhere.

Maarten Tjallingii on why The One stands out

Maarten Tjallingii on why The One stands out

As a former professional cyclist Lotto-Jumbo and sustainability ambassador, Maarten Tjallingii knows better than anyone the importance of innovation and reliability in the cycling world. The One, a revolutionary bike computer made in the Netherlands, exemplifies how technology, user-friendliness and sustainability can come together seamlessly. He could never imagine riding with a different bike computer now that he’s using The One.

A New Standard in Navigation

Maarten is excited about the unique technology behind The One. Unlike traditional GPS computers that rely heavily on satellite calculations, Absolute Cycling uses direct measurements to provide unparalleled accuracy.

“What sets The One apart from other bike computers is its precision. The device integrates multiple parameters to pinpoint your exact location. Even in forests or between tall buildings, the signal remains reliable. For cyclists who demand flawless route tracking, this is truly a game-changer.”

Maarten_Tjallingii

Sustainability as a Core Principle

Sustainability has always been a key focus for Maarten. Growing up, he was raised to make environmentally conscious choices.

“At home, we used to place milk bottles in the toilet tank to save water—about 1.5 liters less with every flush. Small steps like that add up and make a difference.”

This focus on sustainability is one of the reasons The One resonates so deeply with him. The device is fully modular: components like the screen, casing, and internal parts can easily be replaced. For instance, the repairability of the device allows its lifespan to be significantly extended, unlike other brands where the product’s lifespan is dictated by the longevity of the battery. Once the battery deteriorates in those products, they are often immediately rendered obsolete and ready for the scrap heap.

“With other bike computers, if something breaks, you often have to throw it away and buy a new one. With The One, everything is replaceable. The aluminum casing is recyclable, which aligns perfectly with my values. This is a bike computer built to last. It’s proof that technology can also be sustainable.”

Stylish and User-Friendly

Beyond its advanced technology and sustainability, Maarten is impressed by the device’s ease of use and design. “The One looks sleek and exclusive. It’s clear at first glance that it’s a high-quality product. When I was cycling in Cape Town recently, it caught a lot of attention. People kept asking, ‘Hey, what’s that on your handlebars?’ That’s cool, right? It reminded me of when I was younger, showing off my skateboard to express who I was. Now, with The One, I show what I stand for: innovation, precision, and sustainability.”

The simplicity of operation is another major advantage. “With the app, you can upload a GPX file and plan your route in seconds. The large, bright screen is easy to read, even in direct sunlight. There are no unnecessary notifications or distractions—just the information you need. It perfectly aligns with the slogan: ‘You and your ride.’”

Driving Positive Change

Maarten sees The One as more than just a bike computer—it’s a symbol of how technology can drive progress toward a better future.

“As an ambassador for the Climate Classic, I believe in focusing on the positive steps being taken in sustainability. It’s not about doom and gloom; it’s about progress. The One fits perfectly into this vision: an innovative product that shows how small steps can collectively make a big difference.”

Absolute_Cycling_One_Maarten_Tjallingi

Why Maarten Tjallingii Champions The One

For Maarten, the Absolute Cycling The One is not just a reliable and accurate device—it’s a statement.

“It combines everything I value: precision, user-friendliness, and sustainability. For cyclists who want to stand out while contributing to a sustainable future, The One is the perfect choice. It’s more than a bike computer—it’s a step toward a greener, better world.”

“You and your bike, living together on this planet. That’s what it’s all about.”

Pieter’s Principle: simple and functional

Pieter’s Principle: simple and functional

“If I can use it easily, anyone can.”

Pieter (53) works as a physiotherapist, running his own practice. His athletic roots lie in motorsport, where he achieved remarkable success, including becoming the Dutch Motor Enduro Champion in 1991 and competing in world championships. From this background, he discovered his passion for mountainbiking.

“My first mountainbike was a Giant, without suspension, with 26-inch wheels and narrow handlebars,” Pieter recalls. Later, he added road cycling to his repertoire, becoming a dedicated touring cyclist. Pieter now splits his time evenly between riding the mountain bike and the road bike. “I love the freedom and the sense of discovery,” Pieter shares. For him, cycling isn’t just about speed; it’s about adventure and keeping things straightforward.

From Odometers to Advanced Navigation

For years, Pieter relied on a simple setup: an odometer and a good sense of direction. “Sometimes, I’d just ride straight for an hour and then turn right to make my way home,” he recalls. But over time, his curiosity about more advanced tools grew.

When Pieter decided to invest in a cycling computer, he had one non-negotiable requirement: it had to be easy to use. “I’m a bit of a technophobe,” he admits. “If I can use it easily, anyone can.” For Pieter, The One turned out to be the perfect fit. He was initially drawn to its sleek design, but it was the combination of user-friendly navigation and elegant aesthetics that won him over.

Pieter Geluk

Navigating with Confidence

Pieter’s first experience with navigation quickly paid off. During a group ride, everyone insisted on turning right, but his device advised them to go left. “And that was correct,” Pieter recalls with satisfaction. Since then, he’s been planning routes using Komoot, effortlessly loading them onto his cycling computer. “I just step on the bike the next day without giving it a second thought. It works seamlessly.”

Even on challenging mountainbike trails, like the ones in Schaarsbergen, Pieter’s navigation system has proven reliable. “It even picks up the narrowest paths with ease,” he says.

The One

Constantly Improving

What Pieter truly appreciates is how the technology behind his cycling computer is continually evolving. Updates like a sharper display and faster uploads to Strava have enhanced his experience over time. “It’s great to see all the improvements in the software,” he says. Pieter enjoys contributing his ideas as well, such as a “surprise me” route function that could generate unique rides on the fly.

For Pieter, the formula for a good cycling computer is simple: ease of use and functionality. “It just has to work. That’s what makes it so appealing to me.”

Gran Fondo Hero: Guy’s 11-Hour ride with The One

Gran Fondo Hero: Guy’s 11-Hour ride with The One

Cycling isn’t just a hobby for Guy – it’s an adventure. While he describes himself as a “regular” cyclist, his achievements tell a different story. For instance, he once completed a remarkable 300-kilometer ride, spending 14.5 hours on his bike.

From beginner to Gran Fondo enthusiast

Guy started cycling in 2008. What began as short rides with friends around his neighborhood quickly evolved into epic journeys, often lasting 10 to 11 hours. He loves participating in Gran Fondos for their atmosphere, challenging courses and ideally, a few tough climbs. In September, he accomplished another impressive feat: an 11-hour Gran Fondo, completed with his trusted companion: The One. This time, it was the Schwarzwald Ultra Rad Marathon (srum.de), a demanding cycling tour that starts and ends in Alpirsbach, Schwarzwald, Germany. Participants could choose from three distances with the longest officially set at 240 km. However, due to some detours this year, the route extended to a grueling 264 km with over 4,000 meters of elevation gain. A few days before the event, Guy received the GPX file of the route to upload to his device. The detailed course profile on The One, including distance and color-coded elevation markers, helped him anticipate the tough climbs ahead.

SURM GPX Absolute Cycling

The One: a reliable companion for every adventure

For Guy, The One is ideal for long-distance rides. One of its standout features is its bright, clear display. “The data is very easy to read, and that really makes a difference,” he explains. Initially, he had to adjust to the absence of a touchscreen, but he soon realized its advantages. “With a touchscreen, pages would sometimes switch accidentally in the rain. That doesn’t happen anymore.” Guy has also tested The One in heavy rain, including during rides in Italy. “It’s completely waterproof,” he confirms. This is thanks to Absolute Cycling’s innovative design, which eliminates open charging ports, ensuring a sleek appearance and total protection against the elements.

Navigation that delivers

Navigation is critical for Guy, especially during events or rides in unfamiliar areas. The One stands out in this regard. “When I don’t know the area, I create a route and upload it. For events, I often receive a GPX file in advance, which I load into the app,” he explains. He praises the navigation system for its flawless performance, which is crucial for long days on the bike. The One is engineered with proprietary technologies: the Absolute Positioning Technology (APT) and Absolute Altitude Technology (AAT). These systems utilize a fusion of GPS data, environmental sensors, and motion sensors to provide accuracy in speed, position, and altitude measurements (read more about the technologies).
For his training rides, Guy often uses the metrics screen to monitor key stats like average heart rate and power output. This ensures he always has the most important data at a glance.

A Cycling Computer that stands apart

Guy believes The One sets itself apart in a market where cycling computers often follow the same trends, adding more and more features. “This is truly a different kind of cycling computer, both in functionality and design. Its ease of use is unmatched, and it’s the little details that make all the difference.” The waterproof design and innovative charging mechanism are perfect examples of this thoughtful approach.

Guy with The One

A perfect fit for Long-Distance Cyclists

Whether you’re tackling an 11-hour Gran Fondo or a shorter training ride, The One is the ideal companion for dedicated cyclists. As Guy puts it: “The One is designed with the user in mind and you can feel it in every detail. It’s not only functional but also beautifully designed. A true win-win.”

Henk: ”More joy, less hassle”

For Henk, cycling has always been a form of release. At the age of 18, he discovered his talent for road cycling, which later developed into a high-level career as a triathlete. Despite the diversity of triathlon, cycling remained his favorite part. His determination comes from a personal drive: born with partial paralysis on one side, he was inspired to push his physical limits and prove what he could achieve. With a training schedule of 20 to 25 hours a week alongside a full-time job, Henk pushed himself daily. In addition to his training, he cycled 46 kilometers to and from work each day. This combination of work and sport gave him energy, with both pursuits enhancing his sense of fulfillment. Sport has given him the resilience he still carries with him today.

Strong connection with Absolute Cycling

Henk has been involved with Absolute Cycling for years. Driven by curiosity as an entrepreneur, he struck up a conversation with Harm Giessen, the mastermind behind Absolute Cycling. Before long, he became the first investor, and in 2019 he also joined as a crowdfunder, along with 125 others. Over the years, he has actively participated in test sessions and closely followed the development of the new bike computer.

A close-knit user community

“When you join Absolute Cycling, you really become part of the family,” Henk says enthusiastically. The close connection he feels with the brand goes beyond just using the bike computer. The team involves users in product development; every three months, a new update is released, and user feedback plays a significant role. Some people even purchase The One specifically because they want to contribute to developing new features.

Limited Edition and Personal Connection

As a proud owner of the red limited edition of The One, Henk stands out during his rides. “At traffic lights, I often get asked: ‘What brand of bike computer is that? Is it a new brand?’ It’s fun to connect with other cyclists like that,” he says with a smile. It gives him satisfaction to be part of the Absolute Cycling community and to introduce new riders to the unique features of The One. “The One feels like a piece of jewelry on my bike,” Henk explains. “When I look down, I see a beautiful device on my handlebars.” For him, his bike is as important as a car is for others, and The One fits right in as an extension of his bike, carefully personalized to his preferences.

Perfection beneath the Spanish sun

In Spain, where Henk spends much of his time, he uses The One on his various bikes: a road bike, gravel bike, and mountain bike. He notes how the cycling computer works perfectly in various conditions. The clear display remains visible even under the bright Spanish sun. And thanks to its smart technology, he doesn’t have to adjust anything manually, like connecting sensors; The One handles everything automatically. While climbing hills and mountains, he is impressed by how accurately The One works. “The incline percentage is spot-on,” he says. “With many other cycling computers, this isn’t always the case, but with The One, there’s no lag or inaccuracy. That gives a sense of calm and trust.”

Henk Spain The One

More joy, less hassle

For Henk, The One has made cycling more enjoyable and hassle-free. Thanks to customizable screens, he can see exactly what he wants without having to constantly adjust settings. “I now have a cycling computer that fits me perfectly because I’ve completely personalized it,” he says. With his experience, passion for sports and personal involvement with Absolute Cycling, Henk is a true ambassador for The One. His story illustrates how Absolute Cycling offers a community where everyone, from casual cyclists to seasoned athletes, can feel at home.

Tom says: ‘It’s the Rolls Royce of bike computers

From daily rides to the ultimate cycling experience with The One, Tom has always had cycling in his blood. In his youth, he would cycle every day from Zevenaar to Arnhem for school. After a few years away from cycling, he got back in the saddle in 2014. The reason? His five-year-old son wanted to start cycling – and not just any cycling, but mountain biking. Determined to share the experience, Tom and his son went to the bike shop and bought their first mountain bike. It quickly became clear that his son had a natural talent. This year, they completed an impressive climb together on the famous La Colombière. A special moment for both of them. In recent years, Tom has clocked over 14,000 kilometers. His rides range from daily commutes to adventurous outings with his son and long group rides with friends. Tom even organizes his own annual “Tour de Tom de Tester,” a 120-kilometer ride through Twente.

Tom’s ultimate cycling companion

Tom isn’t just any cyclist; he’s a true enthusiast with love for innovation. His garage is filled with no less than six bikes: from a gravel bike and road bike to a mountain bike. Cycling is his passion, and the same goes for bike computers. His journey began with a Polar, but over the years, he’s used Wahoo, various Garmin models (Edge 810, 1040, 1030, 1050), and even a Beeline. Today, Tom rides with The One. “The first time I rode with The One, the design immediately stood out. A friend commented on how clear and readable the screen was, and I laughed as he helped me maintain my goal of an average of 29 km/h,” says Tom. After disappointing experiences with other bike computers – like a Wahoo that suddenly showed a speed of 252 km/h or a Garmin that lost navigation in the forest – Tom was looking for something different. Something innovative and unlike any other bike computer. He found that in The One. “The navigation on The One is just much more accurate. Where Garmin tells you to turn right, you actually need to go another 300 meters. I don’t have that issue with The One,” he explains. Tom describes The One as the “Rolls Royce of bike computers.” It all starts with the packaging, which immediately gave him the feeling of unboxing a premium product.

User Story Tom de Tester

Distraction-free cycling

One of the things Tom particularly appreciates about The One is its minimalist approach: no constant beeps or notifications popping up on the screen. “It helps you focus on what really matters,” he says. That, combined with the user-friendliness and flexibility of the display, is something Tom believes the industry should adopt as a standard. This year, Tom met Team Absolute Cycling in Arnhem. “You’ll never hear me say a bad word about Absolute Cycling’s support,” he concludes with satisfaction.

For Tom, cycling isn’t just a hobby; it’s a way of life. With The One on his handlebars, he enjoys every kilometer even more.
